About My Work
I work in the fields of 19th and 20th century urban history, with a focus on infrastructure projects in the United States, Germany, the Middle East, and East Africa. Currently I am in Berlin at the FU researching for my dissertation, which focuses on the city's airport infrastructure (Tegel, Tempelhof, Schoenefeld), from the 1920s to the 1960s. I am interested in the social and environmental dimensions of a new global transport system anchored in urban spaces by the transformation of airfields into airports. At the root of my investigations are questions of how 'urban' is continually redefined, capital city planning, constraints on mobility and migration, and environmental & scientific knowledge.
